Today the keen eyes of Antero, our "Vigia", spotted two baleen whales south of Pico. We rushed southwards passing through a huge pod of foraging Common Dolphins (and their accompanying Cory's shearwaters) to find all our hopes come true - two adult Blue whales.
This one surfaced close to the boat (see below) - its huge blow towering above us.
Its companion was huge - maybe 25m long or more. The whale's distinctive blue-grey mottling and small dorsal fin were clearly visible as it surfaced and passed by (see below).
