2010 ...and so we begin.
Yes and what a start. We launch the boat and head south with a full complement of clients from UK.
During our first encounter with a large pod of Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), I spot what appears to be an aberrant animal.

Bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus)
Chocolate brown with a small round-tipped dorsal fin, an elongate tail-stock and blunt nose. This was no Bottlenose dolphin but a False killer whale (Pseudorca crassidens). But these are very social animals, surely it was not alone among the dolphins.
No it was not. Moments later we were joined by the rest of the group as perhaps up to 20 animals pass by our boat. The largest males are impressive animals up to 6m long.

False killer whale (Pseudorca crassidens)
We have never before encountered False killer whales so early in the season. A great surprise and a wonderful sight.
We finish the trip close inshore among a flock of Cory's shearwaters (Calonectris diomedea) and a pod of Common dolphins (Delphinus delphis). Enroute a Manx shearwater (Puffinus puffinus) also crosses our bow.
Overall, a great start. Bring it on.
